You can grow your hair at any age, as some of the guys here will tell you. I started at age 54 and ended up with a mid-back terminal length. You have your circumstances in life, and no one but you can judge. We are not "No one ever leaves the KGB and lives", but rather a common-interest group. We older guys get less pressure to conform to current fashions or family / professional constraints.
Live your life well and find happiness and balance. One day you will be the one who decides how you want to look and what long or short hair means to you.
