: : : I was looking for Vic's vapor rub and reading reviews on Amazon found someone putting it in the hair for growth. Is this safe? Here's the review:

: : : Before I shampoo my hair, I put this throughout my scalp, wrap my hair in a plastic cap, and let it sit for 15 minutes. It feels like a cool tingling sensation, but it feels great. Since hair grows from the root, this opens up the hair follicles and promotes hair growth. After 3 months of doing this every 2 weeks or so, my hair has thicken up allot. Most people put it on the body of their hair, but I don't think that's necessary. Good to grow your edges too.

: : Marty,

I wouldn’t trust any products not ment for use on hair.

: That's what I was thinking. Might work but damage your hair at the same time! I have been reading about the effects of peppermint oil when diluted on the hair-it's supposedly as effective as rogaine for growing hair. I think since Vicks has a menthol effect it probably contains peppermint oil or something close and can get blood to hair follicles. I put a couple drops of peppermint oil in conditioner and leave that on my head for a couple minutes before rinsing and sometimes feel a tingly effect like it seems Vicks produces.
