I started growing a full beard and not trimming anything like I had been for years. I think trimming any hair that fell over my ears for years is why I wasn't getting length on the sides. What I'm doing on the sides is smoothing them straight down while wet and putting a leave in conditioner cream on them and then tuck behind my ears and it doesn't dry frizzy.
