Longhairs shed

: Pretty much. If you do a thorough brush/detangle/combing prior to the hair washing you can get all the sheds out first rather than in the shower. You can assume you lose 50-150 hairs a day every day...with very short hair they just fall off your head and go anywhere...longer than a foot or so, they mostly don't fall out on their own so you have to groom them out.

Keep in mind that 50-150 long hair strands will create a much larger mass of sheddings than the same number of short hair strands. Put another way, you are still growing all that hair that used to end up on the barber shop floor, and now it has to go somewhere else. That "somewhere else" to a large extent is "in your house".
