Hi Hairy People,
As a follow-up to Kenneth's thread, ("Long hair philosophy?"), I was just remembering the first time I ever stepped foot inside a "Unisex" hair salon...
It was in either 1973 or '74, the year I was briefly living & working in Princeton, NJ (just after turning 20 y/o during the summer of '73, my first year away from living in my home state of Illinois)...
I "needed" a haircut (HA! Now that's pretty funny even typing that word - LOL), and a co-worker of mine recommended the upscale hair salon in downtown Princeton near the University. The place was called, "Unisex Haircuts" (or something similar to that name).
That was the best haircut I have ever had (seriously!) -- the woman who cut my hair had styled it to work with my hair's natural waviness, the goal of that hair salon being to create cuts that were easy to comb in the morning (regardless of the hair's length), without having to do much fussy fixing. That haircut was so excellent, that it lasted for a good 2-3 months (something unheard of by me at that time in my life).
Prior to that Princeton, New Jersey haircut experience, I had only gone to Barber shops (that nasty male-dominated word for "short haircuts only" - LOL)....
Interestingly, when I moved back to the Chicago area about a year later, I experienced my very WORST haircut disaster in a "Unisex" salon that had a very similar name to the Princeton, NJ one.... Hmmm, you would think I should have learned by then that maybe NOT cutting my hair short ever again would be the best solution of all!!!!
Oh, well. That was a long time ago, and I'm often a rather, "late-bloomer!" (LOL)
... Just trippin' down "Memory Lane" a bit!
