Just wanted to share this with everybody.
After 6 months at my new job me and 3 others got laid off. It was decided who got the can in order of seniority. The worst about this is that my health insurance just got started. Oh well, never had it before so I won't know any differance.
This was a remodeling job on the "money" side of town but nothing was ever said about my hair... even when I wore it down at work.
Well, after the layoff, I called the people I used to work for and was immediately hired as a sub again. This job is maintaining lower income apartments which I don't mind, the tenants are pretty nice and I make more money. The company even agreed to carry my workman comp. ins. for me until I can afford it again.
My direct boss (the one who hired me back) just happens to be one who is for the "hair policy" in the local school. Weird, he doesn't have a problem with my hair at all and sports a crew cut.
All the bosses who claim their "hair policy" is customer oriented are full of it.
Also the new apartment manager (and supervisor) happens to be a friend of mine. And she loves longhair on guys! Lol.
Hell, I'm glad I got laid off.
Paul
Hey KMF, interesting that your direct boss at your current job is for that hair policy at school yet has no problem with yours...
Happy that you at least got re-hired after the layoff. It's happened to so many people.
Hope you are having a good holiday weekend Paul.
Cheers from FIR

I've been down a similar road.
My current employer asked at the interview if I would cut it and I politely declined, they hired me and it was never mentioned again. Sadly that seems the exception to the rule these days.
I'll count myself a bit lucky.
Kevin
Hi Kevin,
Maybe they were just testing you out for your response to see how you would react? And staying polite and cool impressed them. LOL.
Duncan
To be fair it could be that or that I have 25 years experience
which doesn't walk in the door very often. LOL
Either way I stood my ground and if they refused to hire me I would take my 25 years somewhere else as I'm sure someone would get over my hair to have my experience.
Exactly my point Kevin, most just wuss out and chop it off. I can't imagine how they ever had the balls to grow it out in the first place.
Paul
And when they get it cut, they still don't get the job and they don't have their hair anymore. That would suck. No job and no mane.
Hi Paul,
I am glad you had a nice previous employer to fall back on.
Hope all continues to go well.
Definitely never ever fall in to the panic-knee-jerk "preemptive" haircut trap assuming it will better your chances gaining employment.
I consider my hair and beard my "business card".

Hi Paul,
I'm just to hear that there are some nice employers over there and great to see you stick to your guns.
Cheers,

Hi Paul,
That's what I call a story with a happy ending:)Yes you got laid off shortly after the hire but by not burning your bridges you quickly recovered employment. At least your hair wasn't an issue in either of these cases so that's good to hear.Hope your Memorial Day is a great one my friend:)Cheers
Mark
Glad that things have worked out for you, Paul. And of course, that you didn't have to cut your hair!
