It gets tangled so easily, especially when swimming. I've tried braids, a single braid, ponytail, and bun, but nothing seems to keep my hair secure and tangle free in the water. The single braid seems to work best, but if I use a soft elastic it comes undone and if I secure it with a strong elastic, the elastic rips out my hair. : : Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Any suggestions? I'll be in Mexico in a month and plan to spend most of the time in the ocean--I'm a water baby, what can I say? : : Any help would be appreciated. At this point, I'm thinking I may need to cut a few inches off. It's just such a pain in the ass to swim and I LOVE swimming. : Don't cut your hair. I go swimming at a YMCA pool 3 to 4 times each week. I wet my hair first in the shower. Then I put on a silicone (not latex) rubber swim cap. I put my hair together in a pony tail, and curl the pony tail with one hand around the index finger of my other hand so that the hair is like a little ball. Then I tuck the ball of hair under the swim cap. I also tuck any protruding hair on the left and right sides of my head under the cap. The cap covers all of my hair, and no hair protrudes from under the cap. There is no need for elastics or rubber bands--which, as you say, can rip the hair. // What I've described is the method used by competitive swimmers who do 2 to 3 pool workouts every day. // I've used this method for more than 2 decades, and it works for me. Give it a try and see if it works for you.
