If I understand dreadlocks correctly, they are easier to grow to extremely long lengths because the shed hairs remain part of the locks, thus in theory there's no terminal length. : As for ankle-length hair in general, I remember one of the really long-hair guys on youtube commenting that when his hair got longer than butt-length, the task of managing and protecting his hair (like keeping it from catching in closing doors) got to be burdensome. I, however, think that as long as your hair is growing, let it grow, no matter how long it gets. Off hand, I can think of several guys with beautiful ankle length hair: Hairfreaky, Danny Cecati, and Damian Marley. Here's an Israeli backpacker with ankle length dreadlocks shopping at a store in Chabad Thailand a few years ago. The photo's a bit fuzzy, but his long hair shines through in all its glory.
